UNDER 2'S ROOM
Meal Times
At mealtimes, we offer a variety of seating options that reflect each child’s age, stage, and individual needs. No matter where they sit, the children come together as a little community, sharing the experience side by side. These moments are intentionally unhurried and social, helping them build relationships, develop confidence, and feel a sense of belonging. Families provide their child’s meals, and we have bottle‑making facilities available, along with a microwave and toaster should any food need gently reheating.
We provide morning and afternoon snack times, offering fresh fruits and milk. These shared snack moments are another opportunity for connection, conversation, and supporting healthy habits in a calm, nurturing way.
Sensory Play
Sensory play is a vital part of early development, and we weave it naturally into each day. It gives babies the freedom to explore with their whole bodies and all their senses, supporting their fine‑motor development, communication, early thinking skills, and growing sense of self.
Babies and young children are naturally sociable and curious. They learn about the world through warm relationships with the adults around them and through rich sensory experiences that invite them to look, touch, listen, move, and discover.
In the Baby Room, we offer a variety of sensory experiences every day. These might include messy play, baby yoga, baby massage, music, and dance. Throughout the room, you’ll find a range of sensory resources that are accessible from wherever the children are, allowing them to follow their interests and explore at their own pace.
About The Room
In our Baby Room, we provide a peaceful and responsive environment where each child’s individual routines are respected and followed with consistency. We work in partnership with families to mirror home rhythms, ensuring babies experience continuity, comfort, and emotional security throughout their day.
Our space is thoughtfully designed using natural, authentic materials that stimulate curiosity and support early sensory development. Babies are encouraged to explore real objects, varied textures, and open-ended resources that promote independent discovery in line with the Curiosity Approach.
Practitioners observe babies closely, capturing the small but significant moments that reveal their interests and developmental progress. These observations inform our planning, enabling us to offer sensory experiences and next-step opportunities that are meaningful, achievable, and tailored to each child’s stage of development. From treasure baskets to heuristic play, every experience is crafted to nurture confidence, connection, and early communication.
Relaxation and book Area
This space offers babies a calm, cosy retreat where they can rest, regulate, and enjoy early experiences with books. It is designed to feel safe, familiar, and unhurried — a place where babies can pause from busy exploration and simply be. The area supports emotional wellbeing, early communication, and the beginnings of a lifelong love of stories.
The relaxation and book area is intentionally soft and inviting, using natural materials to create a warm, homely atmosphere. Babies can sink into:
• Cushions, rugs, and soft fabrics in muted tones
• Low baskets filled with board books and sensory story objects
• Gentle lighting that creates a peaceful, cocoon-like feel
• Natural textures such as wool, cotton, wicker, and wood
Everything is designed to soothe the senses and offer comfort, aligning with the Curiosity Approach principle of creating beautiful, authentic spaces that nurture wellbeing.
Role Play & Fine Motor Development Area
The small world area in our Baby Room is a gentle introduction to early imaginative play, offering babies a safe, sensory-rich space to explore tiny scenes, real-life objects, and natural materials. It is designed to spark curiosity, support early communication, and encourage babies to make sense of the world around them through hands-on discovery.
The area is intentionally calm, uncluttered, and filled with natural, authentic materials that feel warm and familiar. Babies can explore:
• Wooden animals and figures
• Smooth stones, shells, pinecones, and natural textures
• Small baskets and bowls for filling, emptying, and transporting
• Simple scenes created with fabric, logs, and real-world objects
These materials align with the Curiosity Approach, offering open-ended possibilities that invite babies to explore at their own pace without overstimulation.
Soft Play Area
This area supports babies as they begin to understand what their bodies can do — rolling, reaching, pulling, crawling, cruising, climbing, and eventually taking those first steps. It is designed to offer challenge without overwhelm, giving babies the freedom to move in ways that feel natural, safe, and joyful
The environment is intentionally open, calm, and filled with natural materials that invite movement and exploration. Babies can engage with:
• Low-level climbing frames and soft slopes
• Cushions, mats, and rugs for rolling and tummy time
• Wooden blocks, treasure baskets, and natural objects to grasp, lift, and transport
• Stable furniture for pulling up and cruising
• Open floor space that encourages crawling and free movement
Everything is arranged to allow babies to follow their own interests and physical impulses, in line with the Curiosity Approach principle of creating beautiful, authentic spaces that empower children to explore independently.
Sleep Room
The sleep room provides a peaceful, dedicated space where babies can rest safely and comfortably in line with their own routines. It is designed to promote deep relaxation, emotional security, and healthy sleep patterns, supporting each child’s wellbeing throughout the day
The room features:
- Purpose-built bunk cot beds, offering babies their own cosy, enclosed sleep space. These cots create a sense of privacy and comfort while allowing practitioners to maintain clear visibility and easy access.
- Soft, adjustable mood lighting creates a soothing atmosphere that supports relaxation. Gentle, warm tones help babies wind down naturally, reducing stimulation and signalling that it is time to rest.
- Relaxing sounds such as soft white noise, gentle rhythms, or nature-inspired audio to help babies settle.
- To ensure the highest level of safety, the sleep room is equipped with continual camera and sound monitoring. This allows practitioners to observe babies closely without disturbing their rest.
The design ensures each baby has a familiar place to rest, helping them settle more easily and feel secure.
Intimate Care
The nappy changing area is designed to ensure your child’s safety, comfort, and dignity during their intimate care routine. It is a calm, hygienic, and well‑organised space where practitioners can give babies their full attention, offering gentle interactions that support trust and emotional security.
To ensure each baby’s needs are met consistently, families bring their child’s nappies, wipes, and any creams during the first settling‑in visit. These items are stored onsite in a clearly labelled personal box, ensuring:
• Only your child’s products are used
• Practitioners can access everything quickly and safely
• Routines remain familiar and consistent for your baby
You will be notified via Tapestry when supplies need to be replenished, keeping communication simple and transparent.
The area is arranged to prioritise safety and comfort. Practitioners follow strict hygiene procedures and remain fully attentive throughout each change. Intimate care is always:
• Respectful — babies are spoken to, reassured, and included in the process
• Safe — practitioners maintain close supervision and follow safe handling practices
• Calm — the environment is unhurried, helping babies feel secure
• Consistent — routines mirror home practices wherever possible
These moments become opportunities for connection, early communication, and gentle sensory experiences.
Staff
Tara leads a highly skilled and nurturing team who place your child’s wellbeing, confidence, and emerging independence at the centre of everything they do.
Through our key person approach, each child is paired with a member of staff who takes the lead in understanding their unique needs, interests, and developmental journey. This key person maintains your child’s Tapestry journal and ensures strong, meaningful communication with home, so you always feel connected to their day and confident in the care they receive.
Our approach is holistic and relationship‑driven. We support children as they begin to express themselves, develop early social skills, and explore the world with growing curiosity. Every interaction is thoughtful and unhurried, helping your child feel valued, understood, and supported as they take each new step in their development.
